Art in Response to Violence Conference

Art in Response to Violence Conferences encourage understanding toward the role art plays as a facilitator of transformation. The dialogue and environment we create at ARV conferences demonstrate how art and art making are processes of awakening, educating, and healing.

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES 
Regardless of the type of presentation proposed, it should be clear to the reviewers how the work is relevant to art and violence. You will need to submit a 200 word proposal and a 75 word bio for each presenter. Topics may include: Art in Social Justice, Military Violence, Art and Peace, Interpersonal Violence, Social Violence, Natural Disaster, Cultural Presentations (e.g. Storytelling).

PAPER PRESENTATION 
Standard paper presentation based on research, clinical or field experience with one or more people presenting their work to a large group (50 minutes).

PANEL DISCUSSION 
Group presentation around a theme with contributions from all panel members, time for interaction among panelists, and dialogue with participants around the conference theme of art in response to violence (50 minutes).

CREATIVE ACTIVITY WORKSHOP 
A planned workshop that is designed to involve participants in some aspect of the conference theme of art in response to violence. (60 minutes or 120 minutes).

ART EXHIBITION 
Display of work that is centered on the conference theme and may include a collection or a single piece centered on the conference theme of art in response to violence.

TIMELINE FOR SUBMISSION AND REVIEW 
Submission due date: July 30, 2014
Notification sent by August 15, 2014
