In the Spaces: A Theatrical Narrative of Disability at SAIC

In the Spaces: A Theatrical Narrative of Disability at SAIC is a theatrical production resulting from a partnership between SAIC's Alliance for Students with Disabilities, Wellness Center, and Erasing the Distance (ETD), a documentary theatre company based in Chicago that uses the power of performance to disarm stigma, spark dialogue, educate, and promote healing. Through this partnership, ETD extended their conversations into the world of disability for the purpose of exploring the unique stigmas, challenges and opportunities that exist within the lives of students with disabilities.
This fall, SAIC students with disabilities offered their unique stories to ETD story collectors. These stories were transcribed word-for-word and then shaped into theatrical material to be performed by professional actors, In the Spaces: A Theatrical Narrative of Disability at SAIC is the final result.
